1) Applying for a job at CAN

2) Before applying
You should read the job description and person specification to check you have right skills and experience required for the job.

3) Completing the application form
You will need to send us a completed application form and diversity monitoring form either on line or by post to CAN, HR Dept, Denmark House, 8 Billing Road, Northampton, NN1 5AW.  We are unable to accept CV’s.

4) Short listing
Once a vacancy has closed, all applications are processed through our short listing procedure.  Successful applicants will be contacted.  If you have not heard from us within 3 weeks of the closing date, you have not been successful on this occasion.  Please do not let this deter you from making further applications in the future.


5) Interviews
This is a two way process for us to explore further your suitability for the job and offer you the opportunity to expand on your skills, experience and competencies outlined in your application.  Applicants will be asked to disclose whether in the last three years they have been subject to any ethical procedures or any disciplianary action or whether any such action is pending.

To support service delivery, staff and service users, CAN’s policy on past substance misuse is as follows:

Recruitment of former and current drug and alcohol users will be based on competency to perform the job for which they are being employed.
Consideration will be given to how long an individual has been free from drug, alcohol, homelessness services and/or treatment and what the position is.

6) After the Interview
All candidates will be informed of the outcome of their interview and we aim to do this as soon as possible.  However, this can sometimes be a few days after the interviews.


References, Criminal Records and Right to Work in the UK checks
The successful application will be offered the post subject to receipt of satisfactory references, enhanced CRB disclosure and eligibility to work in the UK.  Only relevant convictions and other information will be taken into account so disclosure may not be a bar to obtaining a job with CAN.
