Outline
This course has been designed for Mental Health Professionals working in a variety of settings (for example, CPN’s, Social Workers, Community Nurses) who wish to increase their knowledge of substance misuse and its impact on users of Mental Health Services.
Following Completion of this course, participants will:
- Have a greater awareness of their attitudes to substance/alcohol use
- Understand the effects of different drugs and alcohol on the individual and how a person’s Mental Health may affect their ‘drug of choice’
- Demonstrate an understanding of the complexities of working with service users who have Mental Health and Substance Misuse issues
- Demonstrate an understanding of the key role of networking with services to manage risk and meet client needs
- Have opportunities to review best practice principles and build on existing transferable skills in order to work effectively with clients with co-morbid substance misuse and Mental Health issues
- Know how to access local services that may help and link these to National Treatment Agency (NTA) Treatment Tiers.
