One day course.
Based on the highly successful national Parenting and Alcohol Project training, this course will be suitable for all workers who are involved in working with substance using parents. CAN trainers received consistently high feedback scores as part of this project and they are strongly focussed on helping participants maximise their practice with this group.
Aims:
To enable practitioners to work effectively with the issues of alcohol and parenting.
Following completion of this course participants will:
- Apply their understanding of parenting capacity and how it affects the meeting of children’s needs.
- Identify the ways problem drinking by parents can negatively affect parenting, the care and development of children.
- State what contributes to ‘good enough’ parenting and how this impacts on children’s needs.
- Name alcohol related problems and the aspect of family life which are affected.
- Develop an empowering way of working with parents who have alcohol problems that promotes protective parenting and a meeting of children’s needs.
