This one day course is designed for people new to working with substance use issues.

Aims:

To provide an overview of the effects of drugs on the individual, their relationships and society.

Following completion of this course participants will:

• Have a greater awareness of their attitudes to substance use
• Understand the effects of different drugs and associated risk factorsHave an awareness of the Misuse of Drugs Act and other legislation relating to drugs
• Understand the need to assess clients’ motivation to change and be introduced to the Prochaska & DiClemente model of change
• Know how to access services that may help and link these to NTA Treatment Tiers
