Homeless, Children in Care
K moved into Can shared housing when she was 33 years old, homeless and her three children were in care. K was injecting up to 5 bags of heroin a day, she had been using for 14 years. K was also positive for the hepatitis c virus.
K is now a script of 100ml daily of methadone she now picks up her script on a weekly basis. She is also reducing on her 6 tablets a day of diazepam and is thinking about reducing her methadone, she is speaking to her counsellor regarding this matter.
In the two years that K has been with Can there has been a dramatic improvement in her well being, K is now always clean and dressed appropriately. She is open and willing in her approach to Can staff and her housemates.
Hep C Free
K has also had a hepatitis C flush, this was very challenging for her to do and needed constant motivation from her TSW as it made her extremely ill and she lost a lot of her hair. K is now hepatitis C free.
K has completed a basic computer course organised by her TSW and is currently on a waiting list for a gym membership, which as been set up to help people with drug and alcohol issues.
Regular Contact With Children
K now has regular contact with her three children, her two youngest stay with there dad and k has a good ongoing relationship with them. K now also has contact with her son who is in care still. Her TSW and social services have set up two weekly appointments with her son and she is picked up from her home to visit him, these meetings are going very well.
‘Closest Thing to Home’
K is thankful for her time in Can housing and has said in the past that it is the closest thing to a home she has ever had. K understands that she now has to move on. She has been accepted on Cans RDS scheme and with the help of her TSW is now paying off previous debts owing to Corby Council.
K is ready to move on and although she is nervous, she is also excited to be doing this.
