Drug And Alcohol Referral Scheme (DAARS)

In Northamptonshire CAN work in partnership with the Police, County Council and other agencies to provide a local scheme called DAARS which is a drug and alcohol referral scheme within the criminal justice system and works across the following elements:

• DIP (Drug Intervention Programme) • IOM/PPO • PND Waiver Scheme • Conditional Bail • Conditional Caution

DIP (Drug Intervention Programme)

The Drug Intervention Programme was introduced in 2003. The national government programme aims to help individuals who are offending because of their drug use out of crime and into treatment and other support. CAN is a major provider of DIP within Northamptonshire and will offer services from point of arrest to beyond sentencing.


IOM/PPO Scheme

The aim of IOM along with DIP (Drug Intervention Programme) is to reduce crime and reoffending. Arrest Referral Service

CAN’s Criminal Justice Drug and Alcohol Workers are available to help those over the age of 18 who have been arrested and it is related to their drug and/or alcohol use. Conditional Caution

If you have received a caution with a condition to attend CAN we will set the number of compulsory appointments as part of your conditional caution at the assessment stage with you. We currently have workers that go in regularly to Peterborough and Wellingborough prison so individuals that are due to be released can access us and find out how we can best support them when they are released and help and support to access any relevant service based on their individual needs. Resettlement from Prison

Those who have been on remand or serving a custodial sentence can access CAN’s criminal justice team and all the services that we provide on release.
