Police Conditional Bail
If you have had recent contact with the police and are charged with an offence you may be given a condition on your bail to attend one to one sessions with CAN’s criminal Justice Team before you appear at Court.
The information on whether you attended or not attended will be passed onto other agencies such as the police, probation, crown prosecution service and the magistrates and this information may be taken into account when considering sentencing.
Court Conditional Bail
At your first court appearance the magistrate may decide that sessions with CAN will be appropriate based on our recommendation. If this is the case, you will be required to attend sessions with CAN and this information on whether you attended or not will be fed back to the courts.
How many sessions will I be required to attend?
This will depend on the following factors:
• Time between being charged and sentenced
• Your needs based on your assessment
• Whether the magistrates have agreed for further sessions to be included in your court bail conditions
If a drug and alcohol worker who has been working with you has decided that there is no need for any further sessions this will be made clear to the other agencies.
